School Admissions Policy

Our school's ‘catchment’ area includes the villages of Nawton, Beadlam, Skiplam, Nunnington, Ness, Wombleton and part of Harome.  Parents do choose to send their children here from out of ‘catchment’ e.g. Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley, Fadmoor, Pockley and Harome.  We are happy to accept applications from beyond our normal 'catchment' when we have vacancies within classes or year groups.

All parents / carers wishing to send their children to Nawton CP School as Reception pupils must complete an NYCC parental preference form. It is the Local Authority’s duty to allocate a place, with due regard to the NYCC Policy for School Admissions.

Admission of children to our Nursery is directly dealt with by the school.  Admission to Nursery does not automatically grant admission to Reception in late years.

Children must, by law, start school at the beginning of the term following their 5th birthday unless being home educated.  Most will start school in the September of the academic year (1st September – 31st August) in which their 5th birthday falls.

Starting school is a very important milestone in your child's life, and we want to make sure everything goes well from the beginning. The school day is a long one and children find it very tiring at first.

Applications for admission to other year groups should also be made through the Local Authority.  The School Office can provide information.
