Teachers & Support Staff


Mrs Nicola Johnson was appointed head at Nawton CP School in 2007, having been headteacher at Rosedale Abbey CP School since January 1991.  Mrs Johnson began her teaching career in 1980 in Tadcaster, teaching at the County Junior School, the County Infant School and at Riverside Primary School before becoming Deputy Headteacher at Bishop Monkton CE Primary in 1985.  

Class 1

Mrs Kristina Scott (teacher), Mrs Niki Taylor (Higher Level Teaching Assistant & Advanced Teaching Assistant), Mrs Lucy Glover & Mrs Samm Curtis (General Teaching Assistants) work within Class 1, our Early Years Foundation Class. They are all experienced practitioners and work very well in partnership.  

Mrs Scott and Mrs Taylor have been recognised, through a 'Leading Aspect Award', for the Induction arrangements they put in place to settle new pupils and their families into school life. 

Mrs Scott is also recognised as a skilled Moderator of EYFS Standards by the Local Authority and, as such, spends a few days each year acting as an NYCC EYFS Moderator, visiting and advising other schools on behalf of the Authority.

Mrs Taylor is an experienced and accredited HLTA & ATA , Mrs Glover is a long-standing GTA and both have experience within EYFS and Key Stage 1 classes.  

Class 2

Mrs Karen Parker & Mrs Jenny Collyer (teachers) share the teaching role in Class 2. Mrs Jenny Carter (ATA), Mrs Beka Newman (GTA), Mrs Csenge Boros (GTA), Mrs Samm Curtis (GTA) and Mrs Panny Harper (GTA) also work within EYFS & KS1. 

Mrs Parker is our lead teacher in Maths and Science and is Teacher in Charge in the absence of the Headteacher.

Class 3

Mrs Claire Owuor (teacher) is new to our staff this year, having been appointed as class teacher in the summer.  She and Mrs Anne Minister (HLTA, ATA & qualified teacher) & Mrs Karen Saunders (HLTA, ATA) work within Class 3, our Year 3 & Year 4 class. Mrs Minister & Mrs Saunders continue to successfully deliver a variety of Learning Support programmes within KS2.

Class 4

Miss Victoria Brown (teacher) and Mrs Sue Sharples (ATA) work within Class 4, our Year 5 & Year 6 class.  Both have specific experience and expertise within Upper KS2.  Mrs Sharples continues to successfully deliver Learning Support programmes within UKS2 and LKS2 and is our accredited 'First Class at Number' specialist.

Miss Brown is our accredited 'Phonics Counts' & English Lead Teacher and Mrs Ricketts continues to successfully deliver Learning Support programmes, including Reading Intervention, within KS1

Additional specialist teaching staff

Mrs Jenny Collyer is our part-time Additional & Special Needs & Disabilities Co-ordinator (covering both schools witin our Federation).  Mrs Collyer has many years experience as a class teacher, as a Teacher in Charge and as SENCO.  In addition to her Class 2 teaching role, she works in a support role with pupils, assessing need and arranging the delivery of support progammes, and in a pastoral role with families, parents & carers.

Mrs Anne Reed (KS2 teacher at Rosedale Abbey CP School) will be delivering French teaching sessions each week, to LKS2 and UKS2 classes at Nawton. 

Mr David Swann will be delivering Music teaching sessions each week to EYFS, KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 classes at Nawton when Rosedale's KS2 children visit on Friday afternoons

Everyone is integral to the strength of our 'school team'.  We greatly value and appreciate the work they do, both in and out of class.


Class 1, our Early Years Foundation class, benefits from more than 30 hours of GTA / ATA / HLTA support each week.

Class 2, our Key Stage 1 class (Year 1 & Year 2), benefits from more than 30 hours of ATA / GTA support each week.

Classs 3, our Lower Key Stage 2 class (Year 3 & Year 4), benefits from 15 hours ATA support each week.

Class 4, our Upper Key Stage 2 class (Year 5 & Year 6), benefits from 15 hours ATA support each week.
